When Betrayal and Calling Collide: Finding God’s Purpose in the Pain
“I don’t understand how this could possibly fit into God’s plan for my life.”
Maybe you’ve whispered that through tears, staring out the window, wondering how the life you thought you had suddenly shattered. Betrayal has a way of shaking every foundation—your marriage, your sense of safety, even your faith.
I remember asking that same question. God, how could you allow this?
And yet, as I’ve walked this journey of healing, I’ve discovered something profound: even betrayal can become the place where God’s purpose shines brightest.
You Are Called—No Matter What’s Happened
Isaiah 43:1 declares, “I have called you by name; you are mine.”
Before the betrayal.
In the betrayal.
And beyond it.
That truth hasn’t changed. When you accepted Jesus as your Savior, he called you—by name—into his family. You are his beloved daughter, and nothing can alter that identity. Betrayal doesn’t disqualify you from your calling. It can’t cancel your purpose.
Your identity isn’t “the woman who was betrayed.” It’s “the woman God calls his own.”
You Still Have Purpose in Betrayal
You might be thinking, But what about now? Everything feels broken.
I get that. When I was in the thick of my own recovery, purpose felt like a faraway dream. My energy went into surviving the day, trying not to cry in the grocery store, and wondering if I’d ever laugh again.
But God never withdrew his purpose from me—and he hasn’t from you, either.
Your ultimate purpose, no matter the season, is to glorify God.
1 Peter 4:11 reminds us:
“If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.”
That means whether you’re cooking dinner, meeting with your counselor, or crying out to God in prayer, you’re fulfilling your purpose when you invite him into it.
Purpose isn’t about perfection. It’s about praising the God who’s always with you, reminding you that you’re his beloved daughter.
Your Calling Doesn’t Change—Even When Life Does
Betrayal changes things. It changes how you see your marriage, your trust, even yourself.
But it doesn’t change who you are in Christ or why you’re here.
God’s calling on your life is steady, even when the ground beneath your feet isn’t. You were created to love him with all your heart, soul, and strength (Deuteronomy 6:4–9). That hasn’t changed since the day he formed you.
When everything else feels uncertain, that truth anchors you.
You are still called. You are still chosen. You still have purpose.
Betrayal Can Become a Sacred Invitation
I know that sounds strange—maybe even offensive at first. How could betrayal be anything sacred?
But when I look back, I see that God used my betrayal as the starting point of deeper healing. It became the moment I stopped striving to look “put together” and started letting God put me back together.
My betrayal recovery revealed deep wounds in my heart and soul. I discovered lies I believed about who I was—lies built on past experiences and quiet self-doubt. It wasn’t until I uncovered those lies, named them, repented of them, and handed them to Jesus that I began to see God’s mercy in my pain.
Dear One, this same opportunity is available to you.
God is not wasting this season. He’s using it to draw you close, to show you that his strength is greater than your heartbreak. This betrayal can become the sacred space where you rediscover his love and your true identity.
Healing Reveals God’s Glory in You
As painful as it is, betrayal can strip away everything false—leaving room for truth to grow.
In that space of raw honesty, you can finally see God’s fingerprints. You begin to notice his whispers of comfort, his reminders of worth, his quiet strength carrying you through each day.
Healing isn’t about pretending the betrayal didn’t happen. It’s about discovering that, even here, God is still good.
And as you heal, you reflect his glory more clearly. Your pain becomes the place where his light shines through.
Betrayal Recovery Changes You—But Never Your Purpose
You will not be the same woman you were before betrayal.
And that’s okay.
God uses every bit of your healing to transform you into someone stronger, wiser, and more compassionate. The process can feel long, but it’s holy work. You are learning to trust again, to breathe again, to believe that beauty can rise from ashes.
And through it all, your calling remains:
To love the Lord your God with all your heart.
To glorify him in all things.
To reflect his goodness to a world desperate for hope.
You Still Have a Future
Dear One, I know the ache of wondering what comes next. The uncertainty can feel suffocating. But take a deep breath—God’s not finished writing your story.
He promises to redeem what’s been broken. He invites you to walk with him—not perfectly, but honestly—through the healing process.
You are called.
